WHO: Our Story
WHO: Our Story
We were a bunch of corporate refugees, technology wizards, and startup junkies, who had been working on data science and BI projects for many years, and wondered why this was all still so hard.
So we grabbed a few beer mats on a trip to Cambridge, MA (inspiring locale no doubt), and started to sketch out a plan for the future, where data science could be automated, making it available for everyone.
We went on a nationwide roadshow of sorts, across industries, sharing our frustration and our vision with folks like us, and better than us, who we thought had the same point of view - and many of them we recruited as Advisors, to help us navigate on the journey. Low and behold, our vision got stronger, our product got more defined, and we knew we had a company and a product that people wanted, with a strong Board and a first-class team of AI experts… it only took three years and a few other random magic elements...
The amazingly gifted and talented Platform Engine team in Romania, an explosive mix of drive and passion for technology and coding , with years of experience and proven expertise in both Big Data/Distributed Systems and Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence. They love speaking at big data and machine learning meetups and conferences, and explaining the revolutionary power of UBIX.
Alex Sisu is working on his PHD in ML, in his own words: "optimizing training in neural networks using special orthogonal groups and black magic"), and also wrote a book on linguistics "Cognitive Biases in Reconstructing Languages".
Radu Chilom is the creator of the open source Spark Job Server project. with a deep understanding of Spark and Cassandra, featured speaker at Big Data meetups in Romania, solid scala coder and recently spoke at Berlin Buzzwords, his soccer ('futbol') skills are a good match for his solid Scala coding skills.
Flavius Iftode lives and works off our Tuam, Ireland office (his house basement), is a rare breed of engineer with a very deep understanding of the Big Data stack (that he regularly patches for production release) and DevOps engineer that will deploy end to end and put out all the fires when the need aries. "Go To Flavius and he'll fix it for ya'" is what everyone in the company will say on a weekly basis. When not coding through long days and nights, he will teach the Irish how soccer ('futbol') is played and hopes that Real Madrid maintains world domination.
Adrian Margin joined the team after many years working for European Financial institutions, and brings an extensive background in Machine Learning and Python. Adi sold us on his own machine learning application that can predict baby crying!
Doru Chiulan started his developer career as an entrepreneur and build his own startup and so he was the right fit for Ubix, ready to wear any hat that gets the job done, very passionate and motivated to grow his career surrounded by world class experts. After refusing our informal offer of becoming the local office VP of Engineering, he decided to learn and effeectively contribute as a Big Data engineer :)
George Stoianov brings a rich academic/research background (at EPFL in Switzerland) and a proven and strong algorithmic background (Silver Medal at the International Olympiad in Math, Bronze the National Olympics in Informatics). After some exposure to analytics (movie attendance forecasting and movie schedule optimization) he is ready for some serious ground breaking Machine Learning at scale ... at Ubix!
Robert Müller is our dedicated DevOps engineer (basically we pile up all the deployment and continuous integration troubles on his shoulder!) and he handles any startup engineering mayhem with a calm and disciplined attitude that you'd normally expect from ze Germans :) Left IBM's Cloud and Infrastructure team from a very dynamic and fast paced startup that will help him grow faster than anywhere else. When not putting out fires for Ubix, he will be found climbing mountains or motorcycling around beautiful Bucharest, Romania, our other Ubix (basement) office in Romania.
